We added the ability to plan and share your own routes in New Heights. This can be used for the built-in locations we added into the game, but also for community-made locations!
To get started you must first go to explore mode. You can either hold down the Overview button on your keyboard or controller (Tab/Select by default) or press the Explore button in the route selection menu. In explore mode you can freely explore the location and climb wherever you like. Once you’re ready to start planning your route hold down the Start new route key. By default this is F on keyboard and D-pad Right on controllers.
You’re now in route planning mode! The route you climb will be saved and can be published for other players to use as indicated by the dashed route line.
When you want to add a checkpoint to your route press the Place checkpoint button, by default F on keyboard and D-pad Right on controllers. The new checkpoint will be placed on your current position and will serve as a respawn point for players in case they fall off. You can also remove checkpoints if you changed your mind. This can be done with the Remove checkpoint button, by default G on the keyboards and D-pad Left on controllers.
Once you’re happy with the route you built, pick a nice angle to show off your route. When you finish your route this camera point will be used to show your route to players. When you’re all set hold down the Finish route key, by default F on keyboard and D-pad Right on controllers. Alternatively, if you don’t like how your route turned out you can cancel it by holding the Cancel route key, by default G on the keyboards and D-pad Left on controllers.
If this is your first Steam Workshop item ever created, congratulations! But before you can upload the location, you’ll first have to accept the Steam Workshop Agreement.
After you have finished your route you can fill in the title and description of your route and upload it to the Steam Workshop. If you want to publish your newly created route to the community you can navigate to your Steam Workshop item by pressing the Open workshop button. Once you’re on your Steam Workshop page you can change the visibility to public to make your route available to the New Heights community!
